Section 4 of the Family Violence Protection Act 2008 provides an exhaustive list of definitions. The below are some of the relevant ones: ## Family Violence [[70 - 79 Research/30 - 39 Theory/33 Legislation/Family Violence Protection Act 2008/Part 1 - Preliminary/Section 1 - Purpose|Section 1 - Purpose]] provides: - Maximise **safety** for children/adults who experienced FV; and - Prevent and **reduce FV** to greatest extent possible; and - Promote **accountability** of perpetrators of FV. Further definitions of the meaning of *family violence* can be found in Section 5 to 10 of the Family Violence Protection Act 2008. ## Party These are all considered to be *separate* parties. - An applicant (e.g. the police); and - An affected family member (AFM); and - A respondent (RESP) ## Mention Date - A first mention date; or - Another listing date other than contested hearing/appeal. # Directions Hearing Parties submit their evidence via Further & Better Particulars. The Magistrate considers that evidence and then provides a 'direction' that they believe the proceedings would go in were they to proceed to a contested hearing.
